Finding an honest mechanic in Newcastle comes down to six things you can check before you hand over your keys: a price you can see

Pick a day, tick what you need, and our manager confirms your slot.
“Loved that I was able to book easily online, everything was explained super clearly so I didn’t feel at all like I was getting ripped off.”Isla H. · Google review
Service and rego prices are right here, before you book. Anything we need to look at first gets a price before we start.
Fixed price servicing that keeps your new car warranty, with your logbook stamped and roadside assist included.
Every service includes a multipoint inspection and report, fluid checks and top ups, oil and oil filter, tyre rotation, a computer fault read, a road test, and roadside assist for 6 or 12 months, depending on your service schedule.
The price of a pink slip is capped in NSW. What isn’t capped is how you’re looked after if something fails. Here, anything that fails is explained in plain English, and who fixes it is up to you. Trailer pink slips too.
Tick Registration inspection when you book.
Brakes feel different? We test them on our Safe-T-Stop brake tester, tell you what’s worn and what can wait, and agree the price with you before we start.
We also look after tyres and suspension, warning lights, repairs and pre-purchase inspections, on everyday cars from Corollas and Subarus to Hiluxes and European cars. Same deal: we look first, and agree the price before we start. Repairs and diagnostics
Most people only see a mechanic when they have to. The service is due, the rego’s coming up, or the car’s making a noise it didn’t make last week. And unless cars are your thing, you’re left not knowing. What it’ll cost, whether it really needs doing, or what you’ve just been told.
That’s when it costs you:
You shouldn’t need to know cars to get a fair price and a straight answer. So we built a workshop where you don’t.
Cody McKay started Radical in 2016 because he kept seeing the same three things: bill shock, confusion and customers who felt like an afterthought. Today the whole team on Darby St works so you never get any of them.
Servicing has got confusing. So many makes and models, and a price that seems to change every time you go back. That’s why our service prices are fixed and on the website, so you know exactly what you’re up for before you book.
“They actually saved me money by finding out that a lot of the recommendations specified in the previous diagnostic didn’t need to be done.”
“The guys explain the stuff I cannot understand and provide a full run down of what is wrong/ what they have done (including pictures).”
“Finding a mechanic you can genuinely trust is rare. I found one at Radical Mechanical.”

Hand over the keys, then grab a coffee on Darby St or head off to work.
A call, text or email with what it is, why it matters, what it costs and whether it can wait. Your call.
With a plain English run-down of what we did, and anything worth keeping an eye on.
You don’t have to become a car person. You just get to make the calls about your own car, with a mechanic you trust.
Start with the price. Our service prices are on this page, before you book. If we find anything else, you get a detailed quote by phone, text or email with what it is, why it matters, what it costs and whether it can wait, and nothing starts until you say yes. Ask for photos or the old part and we’ll show you. Want a way to check any workshop, us included? Read our six checks.
No. Most of the people we look after aren’t car people. Ask as many questions as you like. You’ll get plain English answers, and the same price, whatever you know about cars.
Small car $295. Large car, SUV or diesel $359. European cars $359 or $395, depending on size. Every service includes a multipoint inspection and report, fluid checks, oil and oil filter, tyre rotation, a computer fault read, a road test and roadside assist. If your logbook calls for extra parts at that service, we tell you the price first.
Not when the service follows your logbook, and ours do. We service to your car maker’s schedule and stamp your logbook, so you don’t need to go back to the dealer to keep your warranty.
Pink slips are $52 and blue slips $82 for a car, and we do trailer pink slips too. If anything fails, we explain it in plain English and what happens next is up to you. Tick Registration inspection when you book.
